A framing nailer will usually drive 8d to 16d nails and should be able to be used with a variety of woods from timber to compost. Although the cordless nailer and pneumatic nailer are similar in their functions, the power source for the cordless nailer makes it more user-friendly.
A pneumatic nailer is powered by compressed air, which requires the user to be limited to the length of the cord. A cordless framing nailer is powered by gas.
A disposable canister on the nailer injects the gas into a combustion chamber above the piston. Next, there is a battery that provides a charge to ignite the fuel. The resulting explosion drives the piston which in turn drives the nail. This portable disposable canister eliminates the need for cords and hoses so the user is free to take the tool where he needs it to be.
When the cordless nailer was first introduced it did not have the driving force of its pneumatic counter part. Now the modern models of cordless nailers have the ability to drive nails as quickly as the pneumatic model, but it delivers a lower number of nails.
It has been found that a cordless nailing gun needs to be cleaned more often, but on a positive note they require little start up time. Also, with the absence of an air hose a cordless nailer can get into tighter areas.
